Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka (Known as Ceylon before 1972) is a South Asian country located middle of the Indian Ocean, southern coast of the Indian subcontinent. Sri Lanka is an island surrounded by the Indian Ocean, the Gulf of Mannar, the Palk Strait, and lies in the vicinity of India and the Maldives.According to coordinates Sri Lanka is located in between  5° - 10° N 79° - 82 E°
